Introduction:
For the first field trip, we traveled to Rattlesnake Ridge (north end) and Talus loop on Mt. Si on 04/10/2014. The goals for the trip are listed below.
- How topography affects soils, water and vegetation (Or: Can we use vegetation to tell us about soils, topography and water?)
- Interaction between soils and vegetation
- Role of natural and anthropogenic disturbances (clearcuts, fire, disease, powerlines, roads, and wind) on forest processes
- Learn the major overstory and understory species
- Learn about tree growth and development
- Begin to have a sense of the role of distance from Seattle and elevation play on climate and vegetation.
